Theorboes and You
Jun 27th
Mae govannen, I’m Rubywing and I’ll be your guide through the wonderful joy that is a Minstrel. Whether you prefer to pluck lute strings or bang away at your drums of war, I hope to keep you company and provide some insights into this versatile yet still squishy class. I plan to start off the column with some posts that expand on a rather lengthy post I made on my own blog regarding how I ‘run’ my Minstrel.
After we get through leveling a fresh starter Minstrel, we’ll get into the endgame fun and the real meat and potatoes of playing a minstrel full time. But don’t worry, there will still be plenty of content for those of us with Altoholism!
I look forward to our pleasant journey together through Middle-Earth!
Welcome to the LOTRO Reporter family!
Jun 27th
It is with great pride that I announce the addition of three people to the LOTRO Reporter Family: Bor, Rubywing and Omsi, our new class columnists.
Bor is the writer for the Gondor Awaits blog, and the host of the Gondor Awaits podcast, both of which can be found here. Bor also happens to be the most active alt-aholic I have ever met. Go over to his site and check out his list of character. WOW! He is an expert on a great deal of classes! Therefore, we’re please to have him write a few of the class columns for the site, starting with the Guardian, Hunter and Captain.
I first noticed Rubywing’s work in the LOTRO community when I read her crafting pages in the LOTRO Lorebook. She is amazing! You can find her personal blog here. She’ll be starting the Minstrel column, and I look forward to reading her insights.
Omsi was recommended to become the Rune Keeper columnist by Candace of the Green Dragon Inn. He comes to the site with great experience writing guides on the forums and on his kinship forums. I’m excited to see what he recommends as I level my own Rune Keeper.
Welcome to the family, Bor, Rubywing, and Omsi!

I found this great video of a Warspeech Minstrel in a skirmish by TheLiThoniel. You can find TheLiThoniel’s youtube channel here, with some more LOTRO videos.
The LOTRO Reporter Network
Jun 25th
I am very proud to announce the formation of The LOTRO Reporter Network, a network of blogs and podcasts with a common purpose of serving the Lord of the Rings Online community.
The first to join the family is the Green Dragon Inn (www.GreenDragonInn.us), written and hosted by Candace, which will focus on the community aspect of LOTRO. Candance has an amazing amount of experience in MMOs, and a wealth of knowledge about LOTRO. We have been lucky enough to have her submit segments to the LOTRO Reporter Podcast for a while now, and could not be happier to have her join the network in an official capacity.
What does this mean for you listeners of the podcast and readers of the blog? For the moment, not much. We will be changing how the website looks, as will Candace at the Green Dragon Inn, to include both podcasts and blogs, but each will still retain the same feel as before. We will also have more content from Candace here at LOTRO Reporter, which you may have already noticed appearing in the past few days.
Overall, I’m excited to be able to offer you more news, information, tips, and tricks about Lord of the Rings Online.
See you in-game!
Group Levelling – Busy Times
Jun 25th
Our group has come to a very difficult time. Many of our members have begun to have some long term (several months) commitments that do not allow them to go in game as often as they have in the past. Due to school, work and family commitments, we’re not able to get all five of us in game for content as often as we’d like.
I am Creep
Jun 25th
Today is a big day for me! I am finally considered big and brave enough to leave the den to fight for the Eye!
I am so excited to go out and gnaw on some fresh Freep limbs. Grrrr! My paws are big, my jaws are strong. Look out, Freeps, I am a force to be reckoned with and will make my Master proud.
Just need to figure out where to go…
Excuse me, sir. Can you tell me where…?
Yikes!
Yes, sir! No, sir!
Right away, sir! (This guy sure is big!)
… Uh, what’s a maggot?
Oh, good, here’s my Uncle Wargazar. He’ll show me around a bit, just until I get my bearings. Then — watch out! My mighty roar will cause the Freeps to tremble in their boots. More >
Did you know…
Jun 22nd
If you are like me, you like to feel involved with the community when you are playing LoTRO. I read the /advice channel and try to help whenever I can. I get a chuckle out of some of the random stuff discussed in /ooc, and I like to chat with people I fellow with. Being able to converse with my fellow players and know what they are up to is part of why I love the game so much.
However!
There are two things that have annoyed me since the very first time I played LoTRO oh so long ago…
I simply DO NOT CARE when random player Fluffybunnyface defeats the Enraged Splintertusk! Or Pinkbubbles defeats the Awful Tarkrip.
Also, I find it annoying, especially when I am playing a group without voice chat, to see what every single person rolled on every single item. Sometimes I have to scroll back through the chat window to ensure I haven’t missed any important instructions from my fellowship leader or other members. It can be pretty difficult to keep up with what is going on in the midst of a busy instance, for example, when the chat window is constantly filled up with this extraneous bits of information.
I thought I was stuck suffering with these two annoying aspects of the chat window. I should have known better. A couple of days ago, I stumbled headlong over a couple of little button clicks to declutter my LoTRO experience:
In the chat window, right-click General and then mouse over Change Filters. Uncheck “Standard” to ensure loot rolls don’t scroll important fellowship information off the screen. Uncheck “Combat Event” to stop hearing about it when Gorgonzolacheese defeats the Roving Warg.
