Mood Emotes – The Coolest thing EVER?
Jul 28th
So I’m looking around the LOTRO main site and found what has to be the coolest part of the emote system. Mood Emotes. Yep. That’s right. MOOD emotes!
First of all, lets take a look at the basic facial expression for my Warden.

Now, there is a few different emotes that you can use to change the facial expression. Please note that the change is persistent, and will not change until you enter a different emote.
Let try apprehensive:

And now lets give mischievous a try:

It’s actually a lot of fun to play with, and I encourage you to give it a try as well!
Here is the full list of emotes:

/mood_calm
/mood_confused
/mood_fearful
/mood_happy
/mood_mischievous
/mood_sad
/mood_sleepy
/mood_solemn
/mood_surprised
See you in game!
*edited to fix a spelling mistake. Changed /mood_suprised to /mood_surprised
Group Leveling
Jul 25th
Hi Everyone. Chris here. As many of our podcast listeners know, Bill and I’s main playing group includes the two of us, our wives, and my mother in law. While this does add some difficulty to the game in that we often try to attempt full fellowship content with a group of 5 (1 short), we usually manage to get through most of the content pretty well.
As a group, we’ve got a Warden, a Champion, a Hunter, a Rune-Keeper and a Minstrel. That’s a pretty good group composition if you ask me. It might be nice to have a burglar of a Lore Master for the de-buffs, but we manage ok.
My question is: Will we be able to make it to level 60 as a group, since most of our play time is spent doing things together, rather than just getting together for instance. My experience in past games, in the ones where I actually started doing instances, is of leveling on my own, sometimes grouping for difficult quests, and then getting a group together to run an instance or two.
There are a few things in LOTRO that make is easier to level as a group than most other games (Dungeons and Dragons Online being the exception, where you pretty much have to group to level).
- Small Fellowship and Full Fellowship quests. Although you can often solo some of these, having content meant for more players make it more interesting as a group.
- The Quest Log. The quest log in LOTRO is one of the best for grouping. Not only does it show you which of your quests your fellowship members have, it also shows if they are on different steps of a quest chain.
- Built in Voice Chat. Yes, I know (and agree!), Ventrilo is better. In fact, I’ve been trying to convince my wife to let me get a Vent server for our group. It’s cheap and worthwhile, I think. However, the reason it’s not a compelling argument for her is that the in game voice chat works just fine for our group. One change that I’m dying for thow? Please, please, please Turbine: Let us change the volume of individual Fellowship member. Please!
So, we’re plugging away as a group. We’re about to go into Garth Agarwen. I think that not only will we be able to make it to 60 as a group, but that we may have an easier time doing than those who are going solo.
Your thoughts?
See you in game!

Buying a house? In this Economy? Crazy!
Jul 17th
Chris here.
I made the plunge. I finally did it. Even in these troubled economic times (drink!), I decided that I would buy a house. Yep, I am the proud owner of a little house in Stanshaw right outside of Bree. Bill and I (and our wives) managed to get houses all around each other, and spent a nice night starting to decorate them.
I have to say, I’m pretty happy with the way in which Turbine implemented this feature in the game. We’ve managed to carve out a nice little neighbourhood for myself and my friends, so it’s all good.
A couple of the things that I don’t like so far, however, is the limited amount of things that you can get in the human neighbourhoods. I find it somewhat ridiculous that there are some slots to place items in the house, without items to place in them for sale from the vendor. Now I realize that there are many different ways to get furnishings for your house, and that the vendor isn’t the only source, but the vendor should have at least one of each type of item. Even if they are junk, there should be something. Then you can go out into the world and get better items.
There.
That’s my rant.
Maybe I should do a housing guide for the site. Thoughts?
P.S. Yep, I listen to Buzz Out Loud, hence the (drink!)

Time to let your Artistic Talent shine!
Jul 14th
Hi Everyone. Chris here. Turbine has got a cool new contest out, which could allow some of your creativity into the game. What they are asking for is submission of new horse designs for the game. Now, you don’t get to design a crazy 1 legged horse or anything…. really. I think it’s a great idea. A nice way to start getting some user generated content into the game, even if the Turbine artist are going to end up putting their interpretation of the design into the game.
The three areas that you will be able to customize are:
- the horse’s color and markings
- the horse’s blanket pattern and color
- the horse’s saddle
Take a look at the picture bellow to get an idea.

Good luck. Let the creative juices flow!
Crafting Guide!
Jul 11th
Hi Everyone.
I’ve posted a version 1.0 of the crafting guide. This is a quick description of how crafting works in LOTRO. It’s not perfect, nor all inclusive at this point. For example, I’m planning on writing up a section on Farming, as that is different than any of the other professions in the game, but I want to get a little more experience with it before I do that. If any of our faithful readers would like to contribute, please feel free to send me a message at lotro.reporter@gmail.com.
Enjoy!
Loremaster, Here I Come!
Jul 11th
Hi Everyone. I have started a Loremaster, and WOW am I loving it! I find the mechanics of the class to be somewhat of a mix between a magic user and a hunter from WoW. It’s quite enjoyable. From what I’ve read, it’s a buff/debuff class, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out as I level. I’ll add it to my stable of alts.
Hi, my name is Chris, and I’m an alt-aholic.
Target Alias and You!
Jul 6th
A very cool post is stickied on the LOTRO forums. I won’t go into detail, as it explains everything much better than I ever could, but the short story is that is will help you to create targeting “macros” to mez, healing, assisting, etc.
Here it is: http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=86035
Very well done!
