I just thought that I’d throw this together for those of you interested. We had a great time at our first day at PAX. We’ve got some time booked with Turbine on Sunday, so expect all of our LOTRO specific news to come out that day.

With only a few days left before the launch of Free to Play, turbine has release a new trailer for the game.

See you in-game!

A recent article on www.lotro.com provides a beginners’ overview of the new LOTRO store.  See the original article, along with screenshots of the store, here.  I provide a summary of the article below, with some of my own concerns and questions.

Sapience of Turbine, in trademarked Incredisoon style, announced yesterday that Turbine will be opening four new servers for our gaming pleasure!

The servers will be named as follows:

  • Riddermark
  • Crickhollow
  • Dwarrowdelf
  • Imladris

These servers will be available on a first-come, first-”served” basis, starting September 8th for Head Start players, and September 10 for all others.  (Check here to see if you are eligible for the earlier start date.)  Sapience also noted that the forums for the new servers are up and running, in order to help the flocks of people organize themselves and their friends.  For those of you with 67 alts who just NEED to have 9 new characters to love, head on over to the new servers, make some new friends, and bring our well-renowned LOTRO community spirit to some new players arriving soon, very soon, ultra soon, uber soon…..  You get the idea!  ;)

Capatin This week we cover the areas for leveling from 51-60 and the skills you will attain from them.

Having reached level 50 and finishing your level 50 class quest you can finish up in Eregion and move into Moria, which is like nothing you have ever seen. Gaining access to Moria requires the purchase of the Moria expansion and the completion of Volume 2 Book 1 of the epic quest line, so we are going to operate on the assumption that you have both of these taken care of. After entering Moria you will first notice that it is huge with multiple quest hubs. The first few are levels 50-56 and then the lower levels are 55-60.

Another option once you are in the level 55-56 range is to quest in the outer Moria pre-Lothlorien areas for reputation with the Elves of Lothlorien which will grant you access to the Lothlorien areas. There are two Factions of Dwarves in Moria for reputation the Miners and the Guards. Both of them have decent

rewards. The Guards have a book for a legendary trait Master of Oaths from The Master of the Charge. The Miners have a Nimble Goat for you to purchase for 6 24 and of course for both rewards you need to be Kindred with both factions.

This week’s episode is early, as it is our Pre-PAX extravaganza. We discuss the upcoming changes to the Captain Class, the Crafting updates coming with Volume 3 Book 2, the removal of faction mounts from the LOTRO Store, the latest LOTRO Reporter Poll, and a question that Bill has about Soldiers and Skirmishes.

We also have the Through the Palantir PvMP tip of the week, a visit to our two favorite hobbits as they discuss blowing smoke rings, and a listener email from Lyschko.

See you in-game!

I’m going to go out on a limb and make a prediction for Lord of the Rings Online. I’m going to predict that Turbine will announce the next major content update at PAX, and that it will come before the end of the year.

I have a few reasons for believe this, but I’m feel very strongly about this. We will get an announcement from Turbine letting us know that we will be continuing our journey towards Mordor.

Why do I think that this will occur at PAX?

  1. Turbine used PAX last year to announce Siege of Mirkwood, so they feel that the conference is big enough to warrent major announcements.
  2. Turbine has something to prove to its current subscribing players. With the lack of content updates, and the suggestion that Turbine will be ramping up content release for LOTRO as they did with DDO when it went Free to Play. Announcing the next content update as they launch Free to Play would go a long way towards showing their intentions to players.
  3. This would show people looking at whether or not they want to try LOTRO that Turbine is serious about having frequent content updates, and what better time to announce it that when the focus is already of them with the launch of Free to Play.

If Turbine came right out of the gates at the Free to Play launch with a plan for content that involved the next Chapter of the Epic Quest and a new zone, the public support for the company would swell. I can’t imagine a better time for them to make this announcement.

Perhaps we’re off to Isengard?

See you in-game!
